I thought it only made sense to explain in this first post where the name Mindful Road Warrior comes from. Simply put I am passionate about the topic of Mindfulness and I am a traveling sales person. On a deeper level there is much more.

What does Mindfulness mean to you? For some it may be meditation or awareness or being in the moment. And Mindfulness means all of these things plus. I will be talking much more about this in future posts but for today, the dictionary defines Mindfulness as:

  1. he quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.

"their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition"

  1. a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

So how did I get to connecting Mindfulness and Traveling for a blog? Although I have been a traveling sales person in previous years, the past six years I took a break from it and spent time in marketing and product development roles. As much as I loved the experience, I missed the flexibility in my daily life that you get from sales and I wanted to get back home to Ohio after living in the Carolinas. I was fortunate to land a sales position with a company that values my experience and treats their employees with respect and care. My only concern is that living on the road a few days a week is tough for maintaining a healthy lifestyle which is my first priority. Eating out each day, being off a regular workout routine and sleeping in hotels with unusual noises and uncomfortable beds can have a negative impact.

By starting this blog, my intention is to remind myself each day to use Mindfulness in treating myself with care and self-compassion especially when on the road. And in the process, if I can help others to overcome obstacles in their path to a healthier life, I would be honored.

In Part 2 of my first blog, I will talk a bit about some of the things I have done already to change my habits while traveling for work that are helping to keep me on track.

Hope you join me.

Namaste
